Area Rug Cleaning and Restoration for Worn, Matted Pile

Flat traffic lanes, dull color, and a dusty smell
Worn, matted pile shows up as a dull lane where people walk, a dark shadow under the coffee table, and yarn that lies flat instead of standing up. Run your hand against the nap and you may feel grit. You may also notice a stale, dusty smell when the sun warms the rug. Most of that flattening is soil and old residue gluing the tufts down, which is why area rug cleaning and restoration can often bring the pile back.
Why vacuuming and spot sprays leave the pile crushed
A vacuum pulls surface dust but leaves fine grit packed at the base of the yarn. Store sprays and rug shampoos leave sticky residue that grabs new dirt and keeps the pile pinned flat. Soaking a rug on the floor can push water into the backing, bleed dye, or curl a corner so it dries crooked.
Off the floor, washed for its fiber, then dried flat
The rug is dusted from the back to shake out packed grit. Then it is washed with a method matched to its fiber, using EPA Safer Choice products where cleaners are used, and rinsed until the residue is gone. The crushed pile is groomed so it stands up, the rug is dried flat, the fringe is groomed, and the edges are checked. If a corner curls from an earlier home attempt, controlled drying helps it lie square again.
When a wash won't rebuild it, and what to tell us
A hole, dry-rot fringe that has turned to dust, or color baked out by the sun is damage a wash will not rebuild, and we will tell you that up front. Take a photo of the center wear and the back of the rug, and mention the fiber if you know it, plus any pets or past home cleaning. Call (949) 992-3299. We have done this work since 2021, we are Google Guaranteed, we hold a BBB A+ rating, and if the rug can leave the house, our rug pickup service can collect it.
