Water-Damaged Carpet: Dry It, Clean It, or Replace It
Three outcomes, decided by the water
Water-damaged carpet is saved, cleaned, or torn out based on what the water was and how long it sat. Clean supply-line water, caught the same day, often means extract, dry the pad or replace the pad, and clean the carpet. Drain water and floodwater that touched the yarn usually mean the carpet and pad come out. Category of water is not a guess we fudge to save a room.
Drying is not the same as cleaning
A carpet can be dry and still hold the soil the water carried. After extraction and structural drying, hot-water extraction cleans what was saved. If the pad stayed wet, no cleaning of the face yarn will stop the odor. The pad is the decision.
Call before you lay it back down
Pulling the carpet back yourself and setting fans in the room is fine if the power is safe. Putting the carpet down on a wet pad is how the smell starts. Call (949) 992-3299 and describe the source of the water.
