Lint Buildup and the Fire Risk of a Clogged Dryer Vent
Lint plus heat is the risk
A clogged dryer vent keeps hot air and lint in a line that was supposed to exhaust both. Dryers are a leading source of home fires for that reason. The screen on the door is not the whole system. The fire risk lives in the pipe you do not see, especially at elbows and at a cap that no longer opens.
Warnings that show up first
Loads need a second cycle. The top of the dryer is too hot. The laundry room smells hot or scorched. The outside flap does not move when the dryer runs. Any one of those is a reason to stop stacking laundry and clear the line. Burning smell means stop using it until the vent is open.
Clear the line, then confirm airflow
We remove the lint from the transition through the exterior cap and run the dryer to confirm air is leaving. A crushed plastic hose behind the appliance is replaced in the recommendation even if the long pipe is clear. Call (949) 992-3299.
