How Often Air Ducts Should Be Cleaned in a Lived-In Home
A cycle, not a yearly upsell
How often air ducts should be cleaned depends on the house, not a coupon calendar. Many homes do well every three to five years. Pets, smokers, a recent remodel, or a filter that was left out of the rack shorten that. A house with no dust at the registers and no allergy complaint does not need a cleaning because a flyer arrived.
Signs the interval is up
Dust puffing from a supply when the system starts, a musty smell that is not the coil dripping, visible debris in a return, or construction dust that was never cleaned out. Those are reasons. A slightly gray grille by itself can just be the paint and the room air, and wiping it is not a duct cleaning.
After the visit, protect the interval
Put a filter in that actually seals, and change it on a schedule you will keep. The next cleaning should be years away unless something dumps debris into the system. Call (949) 992-3299 if you are unsure whether this is the year.
